CV Writing

TIPS

How to Prepare an Effective CV?

  • Write on A4 paper using a computer, following proper spelling rules.
  • Choose a widely used font such as Times New Roman and prefer a character size of 12 pt. Whatever you choose, remain consistent throughout.
  • Include a clear and professional photograph taken in appropriate attire.
  • Add your contact information. Provide a professional e-mail address (composed of your first and last name).
  • Unless it is an academic CV, do not exceed two pages.
  • When listing experiences, educational background, certificates received, etc., write in reverse chronological order (most recent to oldest).
  • Add a paragraph at the beginning expressing your career objectives/career summary.
  • Use subheadings: education, work experience, past achievements, internships, seminars and conferences, volunteer work, etc.
  • Avoid adding unnecessary information. Some important details can be shown in bold and/or italic format.
  • Prepare a CV tailored to the specific job and position you are applying for.
  • Write your foreign language proficiency level objectively.

Especially as recent graduates, joining professional networks and expanding that network through training, seminars, and conferences related to your field can increase your chances of finding employment.

WHAT TO AVOID

How to Prepare a Poor CV?

  • You can start by adding an e-mail address that does not include your first and last name and does not reflect who you are.
  • Using an exaggerated photograph is also among the common mistakes.
  • Focusing on your weaknesses in your CV is one of the fundamental errors; highlight the positive qualities you possess.
  • Not mentioning your internships, volunteer work, and hobbies in your CV is a critical mistake.
  • Remember: you must keep your CV up to date until the interview.
